HELLO! ANYBODY HOME?

You stand out among colleagues and cut a fine impression.
The kids are great at school, moving on with determination.
Your files are in place, the food is too!
The kids are learning guitar and some pottery too.

Week to week, month to month, you all are mostly busy;
I wonder if you ever get time to even look around for me.

I talk to the plants when I water. I talk to the walls when I clean.
The duster is my closest friend. And so is the sewing machine.
But I wish they could talk back, perhaps hug me sometime.
Wipe a tear or two – or just ask me if I am fine.

No, I am not complaining, not saying quit things for me
I have no one to share my heart with, that’s all I want you to see

In your swanky corner office, when your shirt is looking fine
I just want you to remember, that gentle hand was mine
When you take a break, and enjoy a hearty meal
My happy cook at 6am is all I want you to feel

You see I am ok, doing what I do
But a loving smile, and some warm words, is all I seek from you.

 This poem made it to the Top 10 at the Creative Online Poetry Competition organised by ‘The World Renewal', a prestigious monthly publication of the Brahma Kumaris organisation. Yay!
